UFO AUCTION
Here is everything you need to know!
Who can come?
Bring your quilty friends! This meeting is open and free for all.
Can I prepare and bring more than one auction item?
YES!
Am I required to prepare an item for the auction?
No! Bringing your checkbook and bidding is as important as bringing an item for the auction!
Can I invite non guild friends to bid at the auction?
YES! The more the merrier!
How do I pay for the items I win at the auction?
Checks, cash and credit cards will all be accepted methods of payment.
Who gets the money?
A portion of the proceeds is donated to the New England Quilt Museum and a portion of the proceeds helps to fund our guild activities.
Will there be a live auction for bigger items such as actual quilts, quilt tops and finished quilt blocks?
There will not be a live auction portion at the UFO Auction this month.
What does it mean to prepare an item for the auction?
What do I put in and how do I package or bundle it up?
Each member who chooses to, creates her own collection of things to donate.
Typically these come from their own stash/sewing space
(fabric, notions, tools, books, patterns, partially finished projects)
If you want to make space among your stuff, and want to donate to a great cause, this is it!
How do I package it?
This is up to you!
Package it up as pretty and inviting as possible. Use those creative skills!
Gather your items and bundle it up in a fabric ribbon, a basket, some cellophane, however you like!
You can make a list of the contents or let your packaging display the contents.
So, gather some goodies that you're willing to part with, and make your item one of the hot takes of the night!

Here is how the night will unfold:
You are welcome to arrive any time after 6:00 pm. It will take a bit of time to organize the set up so be patient and feel free to pitch-in where you can. 1. Registration When you arrive to check in, find your personal UFO number. You can lookup your number in the list of current members that will be posted in several locations around the room. Each name will have an associated UFO number next to it. If you are a guest, please see the UFO coordinator (at the door) to register and receive your number. This personal UFO number is yours for the evening. You will get a paper plate with your large personal UFO number on it. This is so you can
2. Donations If you have an item for donation, you will also be handed one bid sheet per donation. On the "Donated By" line, you write your name and/or Personal UFO number. There is also a Description Section as well. This can be an overview of your item (it's mostly to make sure each bid sheet stays near its donated item). Your donated item could include a visible list of contents if you choose. This is not mandatory. An overview is okay; ie, you don't need to provide measurements of fabrics in your auction item. Note: If your item is not bid (unlikely!) on your item will be returned to you to bring home. The Comfort Quilts committee is not taking additional donations at this time. 3. Bidding The bidding will begin at 6:45 and will continue until 7:30. You may place bids in whole dollar amounts by writing your personal UFO number and bid amount. You will be able to see if you are outbid at any point. Bid high and bid often! Have fun! You might look more carefully at an item that has low/no bids and score a great deal! 4. Wrap-up At 7:30, your UFO volunteers will circle the final bids, pass out winning items (as you cheer and wave your plate around!) and our bookies will add up your totals! You may pay in cash, by check or use your phone to pay by credit card (a QR code and a website link will be provided at the auction.) |
